About Us

AdoptOneBlock is first and foremost about our wonderful 4900 (and growing) Block Ambassadors who are dedicated to making our world cleaner and happier one block at a time.

Together we are a force for good for making our community what it can and should be. Our focus is rapidly implementing highly scalable solutions to make an immediate impact in our community that support our fantastic volunteers.

  • Introduced a completely new way of volunteer engagement that is highly effective and efficient, enabling great land stewardship right out your front door.

  • Launched the first-ever online Community Cleanup Calendar. This is free and available to all nonprofits, neighborhood associations, affinity groups, our Block Ambassadors, and anyone else that wants to organize a cleanup event and free to all people who want to help. Easily searchable by zip code, event date, and the host organization of person, this tool will help anyone interested in cleaning up their favorite places.

  • Working with Venture Portland through a grant from the City of Portland, we created a separate version of our application that serves the needs of the retail business districts throughout the city. Each small business owner/manager/employee will be able to adopt their storefront block (linear vs square block) and receive enhanced cleanup supplies that include a graffiti removal kit, paint, and painting supplies delivered to their front door free of charge. This will make our neighborhood business districts cleaner, happier and more inviting for customers.

  • Earned gold certification for nonprofit transparency from Guidestar. We post our 990's, mid-year community letter, and financials on our website, leading the way for nonprofits with full disclosure and by being highly capital efficient and hyper-effective with donor funds.

  • Made our one-of-a-kind block adoption heat map (our most inspiring visual) visible to all and easily searchable by zip code. This is a powerful visualization of the impact we are having, showing how thousands of us can come together to improve the community we love and inspire others to join to make a difference.

  • Create and manage a Facebook community page that is unique and distinctive by its positive approach, broad community engagement and neighbor helping neighbor.

Frank Moscow

BLOCK AMBASSADOR & FOUNDER

Frank retired from high technology leadership and as a native son, wanted to give back to the city and state he loves. Moving into Portland, he was saddened by how dirty the city had become and dedicated himself to finding a unique scalable approach that easily and efficiently engaged everyone in a sustainable long-term solution.

Additionally, Frank is on the Board of Advisors and Investment Committee of the Oregon Venture Fund, that, with its investors, has invested over $108 million in the area’s most promising growth companies. 31% of those companies are led by female founders and 22% by diverse founders. Frank believes passionately that the benefits of economic growth should be EQUALLY and FULLY available to ALL Oregonians.

He is the proud dad of two wonderful daughters who are doing amazing things in the world. When not a Block Ambassador, you will find Frank walking the city and supporting all of the wonderful small restaurants he can find.
